Our journey to the Friends Wilderness Center begins on the Appalachian Trail, along the Blue Ridge, in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The Wilderness Center was established 30 years ago with two goals in mind: First, to enable members and participants to meld their love for nature with their spiritual life. And second, to promote environmental preservation on this stunning piece of land, and elsewhere. The Blue Ridge and the Appalachian Trail both traverse the highest border of the Rolling Ridge property upon which the Wilderness Center is located. If you like, you can walk south on the Trail 1,000 miles to Springer Mountain, Georgia. Or you can turn north and hike nearly 1,200 miles to Mount Katahdin, Maine. |
