Personal Retreat At Rolling Ridge in Deer Spring House
Personal Retreat is intended for individuals or pairs of individuals who seek new vision for enriching their life journeys. The format for this moves between solitude, reflection, study, and daily communal sharing of insights with fellow community members. It is in this ongoing interaction between the personal and the experience of community that gifts of retreatants and their relationships to mission can be affirmed. This is the paradigm by which Study Retreat Community members also structure their lives.
Retreat Environment
- Lodging in Deer Spring House, with private room and bath, as well a shared space
- Selected meals with the residents of Deer Spring House
- Sauntering in the forested Blue Ridge, ambling along mountain streams, walking to the Shenandoah River, or hiking on the Appalachian Trail
- Selective participation in residential Study Retreat Community - weekly community supper, study and business meeting; gardening; scheduled weekend retreats; 24-hour retreats; and Sunday afternoon conversations in the Retreat House
- The Art Cottage for artistic creations
- The Meditation Shelter for solitude and meditation in the forest of Rolling Ridge
- A residential Study Retreat Community of four households
Elements of Personal Retreat

Developing a Retreat Plan
- Retreatants may stay a minimum of three days and maximum of thirty days
- Prospective retreatants are invited to send a statement of interest in personal retreat, including goals and preferred time frame, to the Deer Spring mentors, Vivian Headings, 178 Tupelo Lane, Harpers Ferry WV 25425 (Email: vvatrr@juno.com)
- Vivian and Verle will respond with further details on available opportunities in a given time frame for enhancing the retreat experience, study resources at Rolling Ridge in the retreatant's interest area, lodging and meal arrangements, and shared times with Study Retreat Community residents. The basic daily lodging fee per person is $10, with an additional meal fee tailored to the number of meals taken with Verle and Vivian.
- Based on this additional information the retreatant refines the retreat plan.
- The concluding step is confirmation by the retreat mentors as to whether the retreat plan can be accommodated.
